Those appointed to the Privy Council mostly comprise ministers, other Parliamentarians and members of the judiciary. The appointment of Privy Counsellors is made by the Sovereign on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. Appointment to the Privy Council is for life and therefore the majority of Counsellors play no part in the
Privy Council’s day-to-day business, which is largely conducted by ministers of the government of the day.
